The Lion King (1994)

After a childhood in exile, a young lion cub who is heir apparent returns as an adult to take back the kingdom from his uncle, who killed his father and took over as king.

BEST DISNEY MOVIE EVER!!!!! Lions are my absolute favorite animal and I think this movie is the cause. I saw this movie when I was about 4 and something just clicked. I've had this very strong connection to this movie from the get-go. I have many "Lion King" stuffed animals. When I was 3 or 4, I went to Disneyland and my brother got me this stuffed Rafiki that has velcro on the hands so it can hang around your neck. I LOVE "The Lion King". I just cannot say that enough. I know all the songs, and, no joke, I can recite the entire movie in my head from memory (sound effects, voice inflections and all).
Also, I think it's really cool that "Lion King" is basically a Disney-fied version of Shakespeare's "Hamlet". If you actually think about it, you can see the connections. Simba is Hamlet, Scar is Claudius the evil uncle, Sarabi is Gertrude the queen and Hamlet's mother, Mufasa is the old king Hamlet who is murdered by his brother, and Timon and Pumbaa are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Seeing the connection? It's funny because I absolutely love Hamlet as well. It's my absolute favorite Shakespeare play.
